Volcano in Indonesia Erupts for the Second Time, 2 Dead

A long-dormant volcano in Indonesia erupted for the second time Monday. Mount Sinabung first erupted Sunday morning just after 12:15. It erupted again Monday for more than 6 hours. The second eruption spewed smoke and ash more than 3 miles in to the air.Priyadi Kardono of the National Disaster Coordination Agency said two people died after Monday’s eruption due to heart attack and respiratory complications. "We have sent food and gas masks for the rest of the displaced people,” Kardono added.

Fire at Retirement Home in Russia Leaves 9 Dead

A resident at a retirement home in the Tver region of Russia doused himself with gasoline and lit himself on fire, killing himself and 8 other residents. The man has been identified as 86-year-old World War II veteran Nikolai Dudin.Authorities say a gas can was found in Dudin’s room. Dudin died of burns while the 8 other victims died of smoke inhalation. Comedian Robert Schimmel died Friday of injuries sustained in an August 26 car accident. Schimmel, who was a regular on The Howard Stern Show and starred on HBO specials, was riding in a car driven by his daughter Aliyah when the accident occurred. According to reports, the vehicle went off the road after Aliyah swerved to avoid another accident.
