The body of missing California doctor Jacquelyn Kotarac was found Saturday lodged in the chimney of her boyfriend’s home, Bakersfield police said Tuesday. Kotarac was reported missing last Thursday after she did not show up for work.Kotarac, 49, was last seen Wednesday night trying to “force her way” inside her boyfriend’s home. Authorities say the boyfriend, who has not been identified, “left the house undetected to avoid a confrontation.” He did not return home that night.

Police snipers shot a gunman holding three Discovery Channel employees hostage Wednesday. Montgomery County Police Chief J. Thomas Manger says the suspect, James Lee, was shot and is in custody. His condition is unknown. The three hostages were freed unharmed.Manger did not address whether Lee was carrying an explosive device as previously reported. Lee entered One Discovery Place, the channel’s headquarters in Silver Springs, Maryland, around 1 p.m. Wednesday and took hostages in the lobby.

The gunman holding several people hostage at the Discovery Channel headquarters in Silver Springs, Maryland has been identified as James Lee. Initial reports said Lee had only one hostage, but law enforcement officials now say he has a “small number” of hostages.Lee, who may also be armed with an explosive device, entered One Discovery Place around 1 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities were called to the building by a Discovery Channel employee. Police are currently in negotiations with Lee.

An Asian man with a handgun and a possible explosive device is holding at least one person hostage in the lobby of the Discovery Channel headquarters in Silver Springs, Maryland. According to witnesses, the man entered One Discovery Place around 1 p.m. and fired at least one shot before shouting, “Nobody is going anywhere.”Authorities are trying to talk to the gunman, who has not been identified. SWAT teams are at the scene. The area has been evacuated. No other details were available.

Caroline Giuliani, the daughter of former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani, received 1 day of community service Tuesday as part of a plea deal in her shoplifting case. The 21-year-old must complete the community service with the Department of Sanitation before her next court date, which is set for November 4.Giuliani’s mother, Donna Hanover, and stepfather, Edwin Oster, stood beside her during the sentencing. Her lawyer refused to comment to the press.

An Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter crashed in Arkansas early Tuesday morning, killing all three people on board. A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said there was apparently no distress call from the Bell 206 helicopter before it went down near the Scotland community in Van Buren County around 4:30 a.m.The crew was en route to the scene of a traffic accident to pick up a victim when the crash occurred. A spokesperson for Air Evac EMS said the names of the crew will be released later.
