ReNeuron won approval from Britain’s Gene Therapy Advisory Committee to inject neural stem cells developed from human fetuses into Stroke, patients’ brains.
ReNeuron Scientists hope the therapy will repair areas in the brain damaged by stroke and improve the patients’ mental and physical functions.
12 patients will get ReNeuron’s ReN001 cell therapy between six and 24 months after having an ischaemic stroke - caused by a blockage of blood flow in the brain - their progress will be monitored for two years.
The potential of different kinds of stem cells - master cells that can develop into specialized tissue - is being examined by experts around the world for many types of diseases. We are all hopeful this trial will be a success!

The Cover Florida Plans, Governor Charlie Crist's answer to Florida's problem of uninsured citizens, was born not from tax dollars, as none were involved in the plans, but instead through the individual health insurance marketplace. The idea was for several Florida insurance companies to offer innovative and affordable plans to attract the currently uninsured into acquiring a plan. Unfortunately, it looks like the plans they are offering are really no better than plans previously available, and may actually be inferior. Is this evidence that government involvement is needed to actually get Florida insured?

The public is rarely aware of the battles which rage inside the field of healthcare notably between various specialty practices. With Dr.'s getting paid less for services from health insurance carriers, it is obvious something has to give. In the field of vision care for example, there are the Opthamologists and the Optometrists. While the former endures nearly a decade of training and is authorized to do more intensive treatments involving lazers and injections, the latter is schooled for roughly four years and currently is not. That is the at the heart of the debate, as Optometrists raise money and fight for legislation which would allow them to practice procedures previously only in the realm of Opthamologists.
