COSTA MESA, Calif. (CRWENewswire) -- Ceradyne Inc. posted a steep third-quarter decline Tuesday as the ceramics products saw fewer orders for its lightweight body armor programs, prompting the company to reduce its 2009 outlook.
The Costa Mesa, Calif., company reported net income of $4.9 million, or 19 cents per share, down 74 percent from $18.8 million, or 71 cents per share in the prior year period. The latest results included a pretax charge of $1.8 million related to a loss on auction rate securities, which reduced earnings by roughly 7 cents per share.
SAN FRANCISCO (CRWENewswire) -- Shares of apparel maker VF Corp., maker of Lee and Wrangler jeans, fell Tuesday, a day after the company said third-quarter profit fell 7 percent as revenue fell.
Shares fell $5.82, or 7.3 percent, to $72.73.
The Greensboro, N.C., company that also owns the North Face and Vans brands missed analysts' estimates by a penny on Monday.
Lazard Capital Markets analyst Todd Slater said VF was being punished for expectations that were too high and kept a "Hold" rating on the shares.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (CRWENewswire) -- Textron Inc. said Tuesday its third-quarter profit plunged 98 percent as the company continues to face reduced sales at its corporate jet and helicopter businesses.
The Providence, R.I., company which also makes Bell helicopters and EZ-Go golf carts, said its profit fell to $4 million, or 1 cent per share, for the period ended Oct. 3, down sharply from $206 million, or 83 cents per share, a year ago. It earned 2 cents per share from continuing operations. On that basis, analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters on average expected a loss of 3 cents per share.
