  • College Football Scores: #12 Boston College Stays Perfect with Win Over Massachusetts

While it wasn’t exactly the prettiest win of the season, it was a win, as the Boston College Eagles beat the Massachusetts Minutemen 24-14 on Saturday to move to 5-0 on the season.

BC scored 17 points in the opening half while their defense kept Massachusetts off the board. Steve Aponavicius gave the Eagles their first points with a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter. The Eagles scored again late in the quarter on a one-yard run from Andre Callender and looked as if they would cruise past the overmatched Minutemen.

Matt Ryan put the Eagles up 17-0 in the second quarter when he hit Justin Jarvis on a 9-yard touchdown pass and that’s how the half ended as the BC defense stayed solid throughout.

In the second half the Minutemen came out ready to play. Liam Coen tossed a pair of long touchdown passes in the third quarter, a 41-yard strike to Rasheed Rancher for the first score and a 35-yarder to Jeremy Horne, as Massachusetts cut the Eagles lead to 17-14.

Callender gave the Eagles some breathing room late in the third with his second touchdown of the game when he found the endzone on a 4-yard run for a 24-14 lead.

The Eagles were able to control the clock throughout the game as they finished with 27 first downs.

BC will host Bowling Green next week.
