#8 Kansas never trailed in their 24-21 win over #3 Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl Thursday. The score is much closer than the game actually was as VT got within three points with three minutes left in the game.
Head coach Mark Mangino, the 2007 AP National Coach of the Year, capped off a stupendous season by winning the school's first BCS bowl game appearance. The 12-1 Jayhawks set a school-record for wins in a season with the victory.
Quarterback Todd Reesing completed 20-of-37 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown despite being sacked four times. Wide receiver Dexton Fields caught seven passes for 101 yards.
The Jayhawks defense stifled Virginia Tech, sacking the quarterback duo of Sean Glennon and Tyrod Taylor five times and causing three interceptions. The takeaways led to 17 Kansas points, including Aqib Talib's 60-yard return for the game's first score. Talib, their kick returner/receiver/cornerback was chosen the game's most valuab...

The Chicago White Sox picked up Oakland A’s outfielder Nick Swisher in a deal that sent three Minor League players to the Bay Area.
The switch-hitting Swisher will fill a void the White Sox have been looking to fill, a power-hitter who also knows how to get on base. While Swisher’s .262 average from a year ago could use some improvement his 22 home runs and 78 RBIs should help the Chicago

The New Jersey Nets will likely have to wait until after the 2009-10 season to move to Brooklyn, a team spokesman said Thursday.
The Nets had planned to play at their new arena in New York starting in 2009. However, spokesman Barry Baum said the move to Brooklyn wouldn't happen until sometime in 2010.
The Nets could possibly begin the season at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J. and move to the new arena, to be called the Barclays Center, in the first half of 2010.
In October, Nets principal owner Bruce Ratner told The Associated Press that the new arena probably would not be ready by the start of the 2009-2010 season. Ratner owns the Nets alongside a group that includes hip-hop icon Jay-Z, a Brooklyn native who has been on the forefront for the move.
Under terms of their contract with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, which operates the Izod Center, the Nets have to give 18 months' not...

Dallas assistant head coach and offensive line coach Tony Sparano is interviewing for three NFL head coaching vacancies with Atlanta, Baltimore and Miami.
Fellow Dallas coach Jason Garrett, who serves as offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, has also piqued the interest of the Falcons and Ravens, whom he interviews with on Friday.
Sparano, 46, was brought to Dallas by then-head coach Bill Parcells to become the tight ends coach, where he molded Jason Witten. Sparano then became offensive line coach in 2005, helping to guide three starters to this year's Pro Bowl.
Parcells is now the vice president of football operations for the Dolphins, who recently fired their offensive coordinator Hudson Houck, so Sparano could fill two areas of expertise.
Parcells is reportedly also looking at Arizona offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Haley's father Dick was the Jets' player personnel director when Parcells served as head coach and then general manager fr...

West Virginia named interim head coach Bill Stewart their official head coach Thursday after leading the Mountaineers in an upset victory against Oklahoma in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
Stewart, who signed a five-year, $4 million contract, became the only interim coach of six to win a bowl game this bowl season.
Stewart has been on the WVU coaching staff since 2000 in head coach Don Nehlen's final season. He has worked with the quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends and coordinated the special teams during his tenure and was named the associate head coach in 2007.
Stewart remained on the staff, even after Rich Rodriguez came into Morgantown and cleaned up shop with the coaches.
Stewart came to WVU in January 2000 from the Canadian Football League, where he served as the offensive coordinator of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1999.
Since 1980, Stewart has been an assistant at Marshall (1980), William & Mary (1981-83), Navy (198...

The Miami Dolphins fired head coach Cam Cameron on Thursday after the struggling franchise finished the season 1-15, narrowly escaping sole possession of the worst record in NFL history,
Cameron firing means Miami will head into the 2008 season with its fifth head coach in five seasons, a far cry from the days of legendary coach Don Shula who manned the Dolphins sideline from 1970-1995.
